Police investigate Sandy Springs home invasions

Sandy Springs police are investigating a pair of home invasions reported in the last two weeks.

In both incidents, Wednesday night and on June 7, police say the bandits entered the homes through open doors, brandished guns, bound the homeowners, and took jewelry.

The first victim, the homeowner’s teenage son, described being confronted around 11 p.m., inside the home in the 1200 block of Heards Ferry Road. Police said the man was wearing a black ski mask, white garden gloves and a grey jump suit.

Police said the victim was bound with zip ties by one bandit carrying a black sub-machine gun, while as many as two other bandits rummaged through the second floor of the home before leaving.

The victim’s brother reported pulling into the circular driveway only to see a sedan exiting on the other side.

The second victim told police two masked men in all black approached him in his kitchen Wednesday around 10:30 p.m.

The men, the victim believes, entered the home in the 5100 block of Powers Ferry Road through an open garage door, according to police.

One of the bandits waived a silver handgun and forced the victim to the master bedroom, where the victim was zip-tied at his arms and ankles, police said.

Police said one of the intruders demanded that the victim, a one-time jewelry store owner, tell them where the jewelry was hidden in the home.

The thieves took jewelry and a small amount of cash, police said.

Detectives investigating the two robberies believe the are linked, police spokesman Capt. Steve Rose said.

“Detectives also believe that the two incidents were systematic enough to assume that they have most likely committed other robberies in the same or a similar fashion, and there may be additional agencies with similar circumstances and information,” Rose said.
