The mother of the starting running back for Lanier High School’s football team says her son, who faces felony charges in connection with an armed robbery, is innocent.

Football players Marcko Baity and Colin "CJ" Burress were charged Monday with armed robbery and possession of marijuana after police say they and two other people held another Lanier student at gunpoint with a toy gun and stole a gold chain and less than half an ounce of marijuana.

Baity’s mother, Cindy Baity, told Channel 2 Action News her son isn’t perfect but was not directly involved in the alleged assault. She said he only drove the car used, which he would often do for friends to earn extra money.

Cindy Baity said she will do anything to make sure her son isn’t railroaded. Baity, 17, is being held without bond at the Gwinnett jail.

“If I have to sell everything in my house, my blood, my anything, I got to protect my son,” she said.
