A Cobb County man arrested last month in a child sex sting now faces several more charges, including a count of child molestation, authorities said.

Acworth police obtained warrants for six new charges against Michael Shawn Roberts, 40, of Kennesaw, last Wednesday, court records show. The charges involve the same victim, a 15-year-old girl who investigators said Roberts tried to entice.

The teenager’s mother went to police in February with concerns that her daughter was communicating with an older man, police Cpl. Youlanda Leverette said. A detective posed as the 15-year-old online to communicate with Roberts, who the victim’s mother thought was in his 20s — not his 40s.

Roberts allegedly engaged in sexual conversations with the detective and admitted that he would have sex with children as young as 13, Leverette said. He also agreed to a meeting spot, where he was taken into custody Feb. 11.

New warrants reveal more information about his alleged contact with the teenage girl.

In November, Roberts is accused of taking alcohol to Allatoona High School to give to the girl, the warrants said. On two other occasions, he’s accused of giving her premixed alcoholic cocktails while at a house off Laurel Drive in Acworth.

The two most serious charges stem from communication he had with the teen using the Spotafriend app, according to the warrants.

He’s accused of offering to pay her $500 if she would have sex with him. He also had conversations with her that included “sexually explicit nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement and sadomasochistic abuse,” the warrants said. The conversations took place between October and February.

On one occasion, investigators allege that Roberts also “solicited a kiss” from the juvenile, adding that he wished to impregnate her.

Roberts was previously released from jail on a $7,500 bond. He had not been re-arrested on the new charges as of Wednesday.
