A 40-year-old Kennesaw man was arrested this week after police said he tried to entice a 15-year-old girl.

Michael Shawn Roberts was arrested Tuesday after the teenager’s mother contacted police with concerns her daughter was communicating with an older man, Acworth police spokeswoman Cpl. Youlanda Leverette said.

She first called the police on Feb. 2 and told them her daughter had been texting with a man named Michael, who she believed was in his 20s. The department launched an investigation and a detective posed as the 15-year-old, Leverette said.

While speaking with Roberts, he continued to engage in inappropriate conversations and ultimately agreed to meet the teen, Leverette said.

Police set up surveillance at the meeting spot and arrested Roberts once he arrived.

According to his arrest warrant, Roberts told the teen he wanted to have sex with her and told the undercover detective he’d had sex with juveniles as young as 13.  After his arrest, he also admitted meeting with the girl on two occasions: once at her home and once at school, authorities said.

He was charged with one felony count of enticing a minor for indecent purposes and released Wednesday afternoon on an $8,470 bond, Cobb jail records show.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Acworth police at 770-974-1232.
