Officers were dispatched to the Super Mercado Jalisco on Alpharetta Street about 12:50 p.m. Saturday after getting a call about an armed robbery, Thompson said.

Leonardo, 48, also of DeKalb County, was found unconscious in the parking lot.

Officials said Leonardo was an employee of the supermarket. Police helped paramedics perform life-saving measures, but Leonardo died after being taken to a hospital, authorities said.

It’s not clear how police connected English to the shooting. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail, where he remains.

Thompson said more arrests are expected in the case.
