A west Georgia firefighter and a jail deputy were both arrested Wednesday on first-degree child cruelty charges related to an incident involving their son, according to multiple media reports.

William Partridge, 33, and his wife, Cara Partridge, 30, remain in the Richmond County jail without bond, records show. William Partridge is a firefighter in Columbia County, and Cara Partridge is a jailer with the county's sheriff's office, the Augusta Chronicle reported.

The incident happened last Wednesday, and deputies responded to Doctors Hospital just before 9:45 p.m. because the Partridges’ 8-month-old son sustained an arm injury, the newspaper reported. Cara Partridge allegedly said she did not know how it happened.

But that was the second instance the child had been hurt within the past six months.

In February, deputies responded to potential child abuse at Augusta University Medical Center when the boy suffered injuries to his arms and legs, the newspaper reported.

The Division of Family and Children Services and the sheriff's office investigated the incident before turning their findings over to the district attorney’s office, which said there wasn’t enough evidence to proceed, according to the Chronicle.

The Columbia County Fire Department and the sheriff's office know of the arrests, and Cara Partridge has been placed on administrative leave with pay, the Chronicle reported. No other details have been released.
