A former DeKalb County police captain was indicted on multiple charges of receiving stolen property that her domestic partner’s teenage son allegedly took from the homes of neighbors at Lake Jodeco.
Former Capt. Suzanne Eleanor Kaulbach had been arrested last summer but a Clayton County grand jury returned the 20-count indictment that names Kaulbach; her partner, Misty Dawn Caudle, and two teenage boys on Wednesday. Lake Jodeco is in Clayton County.
The investigation that led police to Kaulbach’s house on the lake started when her neighbors reported items missing from their docks, yards or storage sheds.
The indictment alleges that 17-year-old Evan Tyler Caudle and his friend Donavin Thomas O’Leary took ATVs, a fishing boat, motors and a wood splitter, and that Kaulbach and Caudle’s mother knew the items were stolen and tried to cover up the thefts.
Kaulbach’s attorney has said the 24-year police veteran thought her partner’s 17-year-old son had bought the items off the website Craigslist.
Kaulbach was released on bond after she was arrested in July but then fired.
She and Misty Dawn Caudle are both charged with seven counts of theft by receiving and one count each of lying to a police detective, obstructing his investigation and altering the identification number on a 1999 Smokercraft johnboat. Evan Tyler Caudle is facing 18 charges of theft by taking, theft by receiving, burglary, altering a boat identification number, tampering with evidence and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
O’Leary is charged with six counts of theft and one of burglary.
