A Decatur couple was arrested Thursday after autopsy results showed their 6-month-old baby died from a ruptured liver, police said.
Quashawna Fowler said she left her son sleeping in his crib Tuesday afternoon, but found him unresponsive about 2:30 p.m. When she saw he wasn’t breathing, she called 911, according to the police report.
When police arrived to the couple’s Avondale Forest Apartments home on Pine Tree Circle, they found a dead baby, firearms and narcotics.
Fowler and Renardo Baty, the boy’s father, were questioned Tuesday, but not arrested. Sudden Infant Death syndrome was a possible cause for the baby’s death.
Major Stephen Fore, a spokesman for DeKalb County police, said the official cause of death report led to the parents’ arrest.
“The autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office determined the death was a result of a ruptured liver caused by blunt force trauma,” Fore wrote in an email Friday.
