Cops: Fired APD employee charged with impersonating an officer in Gwinnett

Jazzmon Edmundson

A former Atlanta Police Department employee faces charges of impersonating an officer, authorities said.

Jazzmon Edmundson was arrested by Gwinnett County police for allegedly saying she was a current APD investigator despite being fired nearly two years ago, Channel 2 Action News reported Tuesday. The reason for her termination has not been released.

The arrest warrant, obtained by Channel 2, accuses Edmundson of presenting an “Atlanta police ID badge while identifying herself as an ‘investigator for Atlanta,’” while searching for someone at a Norcross apartment complex.

“Our officers were able to uncover through their investigation that she was, in fact, not currently employed by the City of Atlanta Police Department,” Gwinnett police Officer Sam Flynn told Channel 2.

Police said Edmundson told them she was looking into a traffic case, the news station reported. Edmundson does have an active state of Georgia private detective license, Channel 2 reported.

Edmundson would not comment in person to Channel 2, but she did text the news station this message:

“I have an audio tape of the conversation with the person I spoke with where I stated that I was a private investigator. I will be providing the tape as evidence to the police department. At no time did I ever tell a single person I was a police officer.”

She posted bond shortly after being charged with the misdemeanor, Channel 2 reported.
