Authorities are investigating a shooting involving a police officer that happened Monday afternoon in Clayton County.
Clayton County police confirmed that an officer shot a man around 2:30 p.m. in the 5800 block of Old Dixie Highway. The shooting occurred at the El Dixie Plaza shopping center, authorities said.
Police said they were called to the area based on reports of a deranged person threatening people with a knife.
“As the officers tried to talk to him, tried to call him down, he became aggressive towards the citizens and the officers, and as a last resort, the officers had to shoot the suspect,” Clayton County police Lt. Chris Windley said.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was transported to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not released Monday night.
The GBI is now investigating the incident, which is routine for officer-involved shootings, Windley said.
