Police did not say what Cortez’s connection to the crime is, but he faces murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony charges in the death of Edgar Ramirez.

Ramirez was found dead in a car between Jonesboro and Westbridge roads near Old National Highway last month.

Officers were called to the area about 9:30 a.m. May 18 when someone walking near the intersection smelled something foul coming from a vehicle on an embankment, South Fulton police Cpl. Maureen Smith said at the time of the discovery.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that a tow truck was called in to pull the vehicle from the embankment, which is in a wooded area.

No other details about the arrest or the investigation were released.
