Atlanta police found the body of a man on railroad tracks near Piedmont Road and Miami Circle, spokeswoman Kim Jones said Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 7 a.m., an officer was sent after a people on a passing train saw a man’s body on the tracks, Jones said.

The investigation has tentatively concluded that the man may have been struck by a northbound train, Norfolk Southern spokesman Rick Harris said.

To try to verify and determine which train may have hit the man, railway officials are checking the last three northbound trains through the area, which ran at 12:25 a.m., 5:21 a.m., and 5:57 a.m., Harris said.

Railway transportation, claims and police departments are handling the investigation, which is ongoing, Harris said.

Foul play is not suspected, Atlanta police said. The man’s identity has not been released.
