A convicted sex offender in New Jersey is accused of sexually assaulting an 83-year-old woman suffering from dementia at a hospital in December, NJ.com reported.
Thomas F. Pierson, 58, of Sicklerville, was indicted on charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault and criminal sexual contact, the website reported. He is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.
Pierson was convicted in 2004 of sexually assaulting a minor in Camden County, and was listed as a Tier 3 -- or high risk -- sex offender
According to police, Pierson was visiting a friend at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland on Dec. 20, 2018, NJ.com reported, when he walked into the elderly woman's room. The woman, who was naked in her bed, was allegedly assaulted by Pierson, the website reported.
The woman's room is under constant video surveillance, so a nurse rushed to her room and stopped Pierson, who was held by security personnel until police arrived, NJ.com reported.
