When 26-year-old Brittany Crafton of Augusta visited her doctor for a second checkup, her sonogram revealed that she wasn't just expecting twins — she was expecting twin boys joined at the chest.

"The news of them being conjoined was truly surreal," said Crafton, according to a press release from Georgia Regents Medical Center.

Dr. Paul Browne, section chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Georgia Regents University and Health system said the twin boys share a heart and liver.

"What makes this case special, is that the heart the twins share is quite normal and has been functioning very well for them," Browne said. "We believe it will continue to function well after the delivery."

Crafton is scheduled to deliver the twin boys — already named Chandler and Chance — by C-section on Nov. 9 at Georgia Regents Medical Center, the first set of conjoined twins to be delivered at the hospital.

“I know God’s got me, and He’ll continue to be with me even after the twins are born,” Crafton said. “This experience has helped me to look at ‘different’ people differently, and I have gained a real compassion for what they go through.”

To help assist Crafton and her family with the expected medical and rehabilitation costs, a GoFundMe site has been established. To learn more, click here.
