A College Park man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2013 stabbing death of his stepson’s friend.

According to a statement from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, 32-year-old Terron Clark was found guilty late Wednesday on charges of felony murder and aggravated assault. The charges stemmed from the Nov. 24, 2013, death of 21-year-old Timothy Southard.

Southard was a friend of Clark’s stepson and, according to the prosecution, had come to the family’s home on Sandgate Road in search of a place to stay for a short period of time. Southard reportedly left when he was told to, but Clark followed and “challenged him to a fight,” authorities said.

Clark then stabbed Southard multiple times in the chest.

“Clark left the scene before police arrived,” the district attorney’s office news release said. “He was arrested a short distance away. He initially claimed he stabbed the victim in self-defense, though several witnesses refute that story.”

Southard died three days after the encounter.

Following his conviction, Clark was sentenced to life in prison by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Henry Newkirk.
