A woman employed to clean houses is accused of stealing at least $60,000 worth of jewelry from customers, Sandy Springs police said Monday. And there could be additional victims, according to police in neighboring jurisdictions.
Rosa Umaña was employed by Chris Angels Cleaning Company when the thefts were reported to police in north Fulton, Cobb County and Atlanta. During a search of her apartment, investigators found jewelry that had allegedly been stolen, including a class ring with a name engraved, according to police.
“The owner of the ring was contacted and he was unaware of the theft until we informed him that we had his ring,” a Sandy Springs police report states. “The new victim, a Sandy Springs resident, said that after checking, he also noticed that another ring was missing from his home.”
One victim told police he had hired Salvador Cabrera’s Cleaning Company to clean his home, and police determined Umaña was a previous employee.
Umaña was arrested and charged with two counts of felony theft by taking and a misdemeanor count of theft by taking, according to police. Her husband, whose name was not released, was charged by theft by receiving stolen property for allegedly claiming the class ring belonged to him, police said.
The investigation into the thefts continues.
