Who is to blame in the violent death of 2-year-old Laila Marie Daniel, who smiled adorably in family photos even as she bore broken limbs and other injuries less visible to the camera lens?
Jennifer Rosenbaum, a 27-year-old Henry County woman with an impressive string of accomplishments, has been charged with murder and child cruelty in the toddler’s death. According to the arrest warrant, Rosenbaum killed Laila by striking her in the abdomen “with such force the child’s pancreas was transected.”
But the Division of Family and Children Services, the long-troubled state agency that placed Laila in Rosenbaum's care — and is under fire, yet again, because of it — also pointed the finger squarely at two staffers: caseworker Samantha White and her supervisor, Tamara Warner.
“It was definitely a screw-up. That’s where the ball was dropped,” said Gina Banks, Laila‘s maternal grandmother.
Find out why these two DFCS workers were fired for their role in a case in which there is more than enough blame to go around.
