It may not have been raining money in Michigan, but it sure seemed that way to motorists on a Grand Haven highway.
Drivers along U.S. 31 stopped to gather more than $30,000 in bills when a box of the cash fell off a truck Friday, WWMT reported.
Cash was strewn all over the highway, causing a most unusual traffic jam, the television station reported.
Police closed down the highway as witnesses helped pick up the money.
The owner of the cash told police he was carrying the money in a cardboard box, WWMT reported. He said he accidentally left the box on his truck bumper and was driving when the box flew off the vehicle, sending cash all over the road, the television station reported.
Officers and witnesses recovered $2,470 from the road and surrounding areas, WWMT reported. Police are asking anyone who picked up money to return it to the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, spokesman Jeff Hawke said in a written report.
