Dayton-based CareSource has been selected to provide Medicaid managed care services for an estimated 200,000 eligible recipients in Georgia, where it plans to establish a southern regional headquarters in Atlanta — which would be the company’s only other headquarters location outside of Dayton.

The expansion into Georgia, effective July 2016, will create 300 jobs, including an estimated 100 employees in Dayton to support the new business, and nearly 200 employees to staff the southern regional headquarters, CareSource said Wednesday.

Still, the company’s founder and chief executive said she remains committed to the Dayton area.

“We are excited about this opportunity to grow our business model and serve the families and children of Georgia’s Medicaid program,” said Pamela Morris, CareSource’s president and CEO. “Downtown Dayton is home to CareSource’s corporate headquarters, and we remain committed to being an anchor for the city.

“CareSource has experienced significant growth and this expansion of our footprint into Georgia is evidence of the success of our innovative business model,” Morris added. “We are pleased to be an important economic driver in Dayton, and we look forward to maintaining our company base here.”

Future satellite locations in the Georgia area will be added to accommodate member growth, according to CareSource, a nonprofit that currently serves more than 1.4 million Medicaid and commercial health insurance members in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

CareSource, which applied for the Georgia Medicaid contract in February, was one of several insurers chosen by the Georgia Department of Community Health to administer the state’s Medicaid managed care program, including Amerigroup Georgia, a subsidiary of Indianapolis-based Anthem Inc., and WellCare Heatlh Plans Inc. of Tampa, Fla.
