There are dirty, low down criminals, and then there are the burglars who broke into Ashley Curlette’s DeKalb County home on Friday.

Not only did the burglars steal a $900 television, a $700 i-Pad and $1,000 in miscellaneous jewelry, they took something much more precious – the family’s blind, 11-year-old Boston Terrier, “Boomer.”

“He was in his crate and they took both the crate and the dog,” Curlette told Channel 2 Action News in an email.

“He has very severe cataracts and is completely blind,” Curlette said of Boomer. “He’s starting to go deaf, and oftentimes, he is disoriented.”

Curlette, who teaches at St.Pius X High School, was at work Friday when, according to a DeKalb police incident report, a neighbor of hers on Browning Trace noticed her front door standing wide open and called police.

Responding officers discovered forced entry into the home, which had been ransacked.

“My 2-year-old daughter keeps asking where [Boomer] is, and it breaks my heart when I don’t have an answer for her,” Curlette said. “I’ve had him since he was a puppy, and I’ll do anything to have him returned safely.”
