A woman says adrenaline kicked in when a man slipped into her car and stole her purse while she was pumping gas in DeKalb County.

So, she chased after him.

“In the moment it's more of, ‘Oh, my God, someone’s taking my stuff!’” she told Channel 2 Action News.

The woman, who only wanted to go by the name Ryan, told Channel 2 the attempted slider crime happened about 7:45 p.m. at the ExxonMobil gas station off Eastland Road.

As she pumped gas, a man grabbed her purse and took off running.

She wasn’t far behind him, Channel 2 reported. A video shows Ryan chase the man around the parking lot and into the street. She stayed on his tail for nearly a minute, the news station reported.

“I think it was more adrenaline than anything. It was just immediate reaction, so I don't think I was really even thinking about what was going on, so I know it was dangerous. You probably shouldn't do that,” she said.

While she wouldn’t recommend it, Ryan told Channel 2 the chase paid off. The man got away with her purse, but her wallet ended up falling out of it.

“So, they essentially got nothing,” she said.

Ryan said the incident happened last month, but she wanted to draw attention to it after seeing reports of a would-be slider crime in College Park. In that incident, a woman jumped through the passenger-side window of her own Mercedes at a Texaco gas station to keep thieves from stealing it.

“Lock the car whenever you’re pumping gas,” Ryan said, “because it is happening more frequently.”
