New charges have been filed against the Forsyth County teenage driver accused of causing the fatal crash that killed a fellow 17-year-old, according to police.
Adam Robert Joseph Di Millo was arrested after the June 1 crash and charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree, DUI and underage consumption of alcohol, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. He was released from bond on those charges, but re-arrested Monday on additional charges, Deputy Robin Regan with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said today.
Within minutes of leaving a party, a Dodge Ram pickup truck carrying five teenagers hit a telephone pole, ejecting and killing Paul Louis Castell Jr., a high school student, according to the sheriff’s office. The teenager who allegedly hosted the party without his parents’ knowledge, Jeremiah Luke Funke, 18, was also arrested in the days after the crash.
Castell died at the scene of the early morning crash, which also injured Di Millo and three passengers, police said. Neither the driver nor the other passengers were seriously injured and all were treated and released from the hospital, according to police.
Di Millo was released from jail earlier this month after posting $19,965 bond. Today, the sheriff’s office announced additional charges for Di Millo, who surrendered around noon Monday, Regan said.
Deputies have also charge Di Millo with reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, seatbelt violation and two counts of violation of Class D license restrictions, Regan said.
With a Class D license, Di Millo was prohibited from driving between midnight and 6 a.m. and from having passengers under 21 who were not relatives within six months of getting the license, according to police. Investigators also do not believe Castell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Di Millo was released again from the Forsyth County jail Monday after posting $4,180 bond, Regan said.
The crash remains under investigation.
