A Coweta Schools bus carrying about 30 students was involved in a collision with two other passenger vehicles Thursday morning in Newnan en route to class.
A dozen of the students were taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, where they were being examined, said schools spokesman Dean Jackson, who added that they were not believed to be seriously injured. Parents were notified and were at the hospital.
The accident happened around 8 a.m. The bus was carrying students to Evans Middle School and Newnan High School and occurred on Carrollton Highway (Hwy 16) at Cofield Road.
Georgia Department of Public Safety spokesperson Tracey Watson said the “initial indication is that a vehicle failed to yield while making a left turn from Cofield Road onto Hwy 16. A SUV was traveling northbound and in an attempt to avoid hitting the vehicle that failed to yield, the SUV veered to the left and struck a school bus that was traveling southbound head-on.”
The SUV driver was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation, Watson said.
