A pedestrian was hit by a car and killed as he walked along a dark road in Cobb County early Wednesday morning, officials said.

Paul Livenson, 41, of Marietta, was walking in the roadway along South Cobb Drive just before 1 a.m., according to Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Sydney Melton.

A man was driving a white Kia Forte in the same lane as Livenson.

Due to the darkness, the driver didn’t see Livenson in the roadway and hit him, Melton said. The driver stayed at the scene of the crash until police arrived, she said. Livenson was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear if there are sidewalks along the stretch of roadway where the accident happened.

The crash is still under investigation by the Cobb police department, but investigators do not anticipate any charges being filed. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
