Man, woman found dead at Smyrna home after 12-hour SWAT stand off
A man and a woman were found dead inside a Smyrna townhome by police early Sunday afternoon after a tense 12-hour-long standoff that had the neighborhood on lock down.
Police were called to the scene in the Oakdale Bluff community shortly after midnight and told there was a person inside the home who might be armed and might be holding a hostage.
Police evacuated some neighbors nearby as a precaution and worked to establish contact with the persons inside.
They finally entered the residence at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday and found the two dead adults as well as an infant who, police said, was not injured.
A spokesman for Smyrna Police said it was unclear what the relationship was between the two adults and the child. He would not say how the man and woman died.
The investigation is continuing.
