A Cobb County man was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for distributing a pornographic image of a baby, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said today.

Corey Charles Plunkett, 27, of Marietta, will be on supervised release following his sentence and will be required to register as a sex offender, U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said.

“Distribution of child pornography is in and of itself a heinous crime,” Yates said in an emailed statement.

In September, an undercover law enforcement officer in Ohio was contacted by a subject later identified as Plunkett, according to investigators. Plunkett asked whether a 1-year-old was too young for sexual activity and then sent a picture of himself and a pornographic image of a baby girl to the officer, according to police.

During the execution of a search warrant at Plunkett home’s, police seized his phone and located the image that Plunkett had sent to the undercover officer, Yates’ office said.

Plunkett was arrested Oct. 15 and booked into the Cobb County jail. He was released Nov. 14 after posting bond, a spokeswoman for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office said. The FBI assisted with the investigation.
