A Cobb County man was supposed to be caring for a 2-year-old boy who nearly drowned in an apartment complex swimming pool last month, according to an arrest warrant obtained Monday.

But according to video from the pool, Joshua Dion Walker was not watching the boy, Marietta police said.

“The accused left a 2-year-old child beside a swimming pool without any personal flotation devices and without adequate supervision,” the warrant states. “The child entered the pool by himself and began to flail about in the water. The child then went horizontal, floating lifelessly for two minutes until another adult observed the child.”

The boy, whose name was not released, was pulled out of the water on May 28 and given CPR before being transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. From that hospital, the child was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, where he remained for three days, Walker's arrest warrant states. The warrant does not include Walker's relationship to the boy.

The arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Walker, who was charged with cruelty to children in the second degree, a felony, and reckless conduct, a misdemeanor, Cobb County jail records show. He remained Monday night in jail, where he was being held on $25,000 bond.
