Police arrested an Athens man Thursday after he allegedly bit a woman’s buttocks in a downtown Athens bar and forced himself on other bar patrons.

A Nowhere Bar employee told police he witnessed Davis Franklin Cruz, 23, bite a 22-year-old woman and fondle another woman's breast, the Athens Banner-Herald reported. Cruz is also accused of attempting to kiss a man and a woman on the street outside the bar.

A scuffle ensued after a bar employee asked Cruz and his friend Charles W. Stewart, 23, to leave. An officer on patrol witnessed the altercation outside the bar around 1:15 a.m. Thursday as several bar patrons attempted to oust Cruz and Stewart, Athens-Clarke police reported.

Cruz’s breath smelled of alcohol, and he behaved “in a very agitated and uncontrollable manner,” the officer said in the incident report the Banner-Herald obtained. Upon arrival, the officer restrained Cruz in handcuffs.

A 22 year-old woman told the officer Cruz bit her, police said. “(She) told me that (Cruz) had dropped to his knees and had bitten her on her buttocks,” the officer said.

Another woman reported to the officer that Cruz fondled her breast, but she would not press charges.

Cruz also tried to kiss a man and a woman outside the bar, the victims told police. A 23-year old man and a 19-year old woman reported to police they each resisted Cruz’s unwanted advances.

“They had to shove him away,” the officer said in the report.

Cruz and Stewart are charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Stewart, a Waycross resident, was released from the Clarke County jail Thursday morning. Cruz is also charged with sexual battery and is currently being held at the jail without bond.
