A Cobb County inmate is back in custody after he walked away from a work detail Tuesday night, officials said.

Corey Morris, 48, was arrested about noon Wednesday in a hotel room at the Motel 6 on Delk Road in Marietta.

Morris was originally charged with burglary and obstruction and had been assigned to a low-risk inmate work crew, according to Cobb sheriff’s office spokesman Glenn Daniel. He left his work area about 10 p.m. and ran away into nearby woods, Daniel said.

Authorities searched the perimeter of the facility throughout the night. Officials tracked Morris to the hotel room based on leads they had developed during the investigation, Daniel said.

Morris now faces a felony escape charge in connection with the incident. Mowod is charged with hindering apprehension of escapee and Deary is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony in connection with Morris’ escape. All three were taken to the the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Deary remains in the jail on a $15,000 bond, and Mowod is being held with no bond.
