An 80-year-old Lawrenceville man and his wife died days apart after a three-car wreck in Gwinnett County, police said Tuesday.

The crash happened eight days ago at the intersection of Duluth Highway and Lebanon Road in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

Robert Hutchins was driving a silver Mercury Grand Marquis on Duluth Highway about 10 a.m. April 22, according to police. His wife, 75-year-old Carol Hutchins, was in the front passenger seat.

Hutchins turned left onto Lebanon Road, straight into the path of a silver BMW 328i, Pihera said. The BMW smashed into the passenger side of Hutchins’ Grand Marquis.

Pihera said after the impact, the Grand Marquis rotated and hit a black Toyota RAV4 as the driver was getting ready to make a right turn.

Robert and Carol Hutchins were taken to a hospital, along with 48-year-old Edward Duran, who was driving the BMW. Duran’s condition is unknown.

Robert Hutchins died Wednesday. His death is believed to be related to a medical condition, but the cause remains under investigation.

Carol Hutchins died Saturday due to the injuries she sustained in the crash, according to police.

“Our thoughts go out to the family of Robert and Carol Hutchins who are coping with their loss,” Pihera said.
