The woman was in the fetal position inside the burning car when police arrived.

Two police officers are being called heroes for rescuing a woman from a burning car, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Body camera footage shows the moment Sgt. Breon Rucker and Sgt. Mark Underwood of the Auburn Police Department pulled the woman from the car after it caught fire, the news station reported.

The car had crashed and rolled into a ditch on Countyline Auburn Road near Freemon’s Brock, according to Channel 2. The vehicle came to rest on the passenger side.

The wreck didn’t happen in the city limits, but when the officers heard how serious it was, they rushed to help, Channel 2 reported.

“(A sergeant) says when he arrived she was in a fetal position in the vehicle almost as if she’d given up because she was entrapped,” Rucker said.

When Rucker arrived at the scene, he tried to kick out the windshield, but he couldn’t break it, he told Channel 2.

The fire expanded and caused a tire on the car to blow out. Rucker said he thought his fellow officer and the victim were caught in the explosion.

However, when the smoke cleared, he saw they were OK, Channel 2 reported.

When the officers got the woman out of the car, she only had cuts and bruises, the news station reported.
