UPDATE [11 p.m.]: Friday night's winning Mega Millions numbers were 70, 24, 46, 4 and 61 with the MegaBall being 7.

ORIGINAL STORY: Friday is payday for many Georgians, but it could be a gigantic payday if you're lucky.

The Mega Millions jackpot has grown to $548 million, which is the third-largest amount in the lottery’s history, Georgia Lottery spokeswoman Nia Roberts said.

No one drew the winning numbers last week, which were worth $420 million, but five people did win notable sums of money since then, Roberts said.

Four winning tickets worth $10,000 each were sold in Chamblee, Newnan, St. Simons Island and Woodstock in the Oct. 5 and Tuesday drawings, Roberts said. A $20,000 ticket was also sold in East Point on Oct. 5.

It costs $2 to purchase a ticket for the lottery’s jackpot. Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes.

You can watch the drawing at 11 p.m. Friday, right before the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
