“Sometimes we have some pretty unusual patients.”

That’s what Dawson County Fire Chief Danny Thompson said in a statement Thursday morning.

The patient fire officials encountered Wednesday night was even a little bit further outside the norm, he said.

Someone brought an injured bear cub to Fire Station 6 in Dawsonville  after it was hit by a car.

The cub was hit on Steve Tate Highway, Thompson said. Fire personnel at the station provided medical treatment for the cub, whose species was not clear.

“I wish all my patients were this cute and cuddly,” a fireman remarked, according to the chief.

“Station 6 personnel have named him ‘Dawson’ and currently he is doing well and standing on his own,” Thompson said.

The fire station transferred the cub into the care of Chestatee Wildlife, Thompson said. The nonprofit nature preserve is home to more than 100 animals, including bears.
