Child hit by train ‘alert, conscious’

An 8-year-old sustained a broken leg and a cut on the head when he was hit by a train Sunday afternoon in northwest Atlanta, police said.

Police do not yet know the circumstances of the incident, which occurred in the 200 block of Chappell Road.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Lisa Bender said the child was “alert, conscious (and) breathing.” He’s been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
