Authorities evacuated the KIPP WAYS campus in northwest Atlanta after some students reported breathing problems, an official with the KIPP system said.
Atlanta fire crews have not determined what caused the issues, but the air quality was deemed to be safe, according to the charter system. Dave Howland, the managing director of external relations at KIPP, said while no one at the school smelled natural gas, a leak was one of the possibilities fire officials were investigating.
Students were cleared to reenter the building just before 2 p.m., Howland said.
Fewer than 10 students at both KIPP WAYS Academy and KIPP WAYS Primary were evaluated at the campus on Temple Street.
School leaders made the determination to evacuate the schools because the respiratory issues did not appear to be confined to a single group or area.
KIPP West Atlanta Young Scholars Academy and Primary are supported by the Atlanta Public Schools system.
The primary school serves students in kindergarten through fourth grades, and the academy serves students in fifth through eighth grades.
