UPDATE 1:25 P.M. JULY 29: The boil water advisory has been lifted. East Point officials announced Sunday the advisory was withdrawn now that water main has been repaired and test results show the water is safe to drink.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: The 16-inch water main that broke in East Point Friday night has been repaired, and water service has been restored, but a boil advisory is in place Saturday morning, authorities confirm.

The break happened in the area of Kimmeridge Drive and North Clark Drive, and it’s unknown how many residents and business were affected by the outage, East Point spokeswoman Shannon Wiggins told Channel 2 Action News.

Residents should boil water for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil, Wiggins said. The boil advisory is in place until the City of East Point Water Department says the microbiological quality of the water is safe for consumption.

Emergency water tanks are located at the East Point Customer Care building on East Point Street and the City Annex on Normal Berry Drive, Wiggins said.

The cause of the break is being investigated.
