Atlanta police are investigating after human remains were found in a southeast Atlanta neighborhood Monday.

The skeletal remains were discovered at a location in the 500 block of Burroughs Street about 1 p.m., according to police spokeswoman Marla Jean Rooker.

It’s not clear how long the remains have been there or who they belong to, she said. The cause of death is not known. Homicide detectives and the Fulton County medical examiner are responding to the scene, according to Rooker.
