Alpharetta man pleads guilty to child sex abuse charges in Alabama
A 54-year-old Alpharetta man has pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse charges in Alabama, according to news reports.
Cecil Lamar Benefield pleaded guilty to first-degree sodomy and sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old in Etowah County on Tuesday.
Benefield was charged with the crimes after a relative told authorities he had molested her repeatedly from the time she was 5 years old until she was 12. He was sentenced to prison terms of 25 and 20 years, according to The Gadsden Times.
Authorities investigating the case say they have found other victims who had been abused by Benefield. He now faces charges in at least one other Alabama county for similar incidents.
