A shooting at a Newton County home Tuesday night left a sheriff’s deputy wounded and a man dead, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The GBI is investigating at the request of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the state agency confirmed on Twitter. GBI agents and sheriff’s investigators were on the scene overnight in the 3600 block of Ga. 162.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies went to a home about 5:45 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant. When they arrived, the wanted man barricaded himself inside, officials at the scene told the news station.

The man’s name was not released. It was not immediately clear who fired shots.

The wounded deputy was expected to survive, according to Channel 2.

The GBI has not released any other details about the incident, which is the agency’s 45th officer-involved shooting to investigate this year. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also tracks officer-involved shootings that don’t involve the GBI, and those numbers sometimes differ from the GBI’s tally.
