A multivehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-85 in Gwinnett County left one driver dead Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The wreck occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. near Beaver Ruin Road, according to Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Stephanie Stallings. The crash involved a Ford truck, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Mercedes passenger car.

The driver of the Ford lost control of the vehicle and struck the Mercedes and Tahoe before hitting the median wall, Stallings told AJC.com.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities confirmed. Stallings said the passengers in the other two vehicles refused treatment.

The fatal wreck shut down I-85 North until 10:45 p.m., the WSB 24-Hour Traffic Center reported.
