A police sergeant in Birmingham, Alabama, was indicted and arrested on multiple child sex charges Friday involving a male family member, AL.com reported.

Randy Manuel Martinez, a 20-year-veteran of the Birmingham Police Department, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on three counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of felony sex abuse, the website reported. He is being held in lieu of an $80,000 bond.

The investigation began in 2018, AL.com reported, and was handled by the Fultondale and Kimberly police departments.

Kimberly police Chief Ricky Pridmore said the investigation began when the victim came to the police department with the allegations, WFSA reported.
