A Delta Air Lines flight was forced to return to Atlanta’s airport after running into birds Friday afternoon.

Flight 2206, destined for Norfolk, Va., landed without incident, and all 173 passengers were put on another plane, according to Delta spokesman Michael Thomas.

Crew members “acted out of an abundance of caution” and returned to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport shortly after the 2:30 p.m. takeoff, Thomas said.

Last year, 100 flights from Atlanta encountered wildlife, according to the FAA.
