We’re melting, Atlanta. And while there will be some pesky ice patches left Friday morning, things should start to get back to normal, just in time for the weekend.

We’re not completely done with the week’s winter storm, which left thousands in the dark without electricity. But by 9 a.m. Friday, temperatures will hit the mid-30s headed toward an afternoon high of 50, according to chief meteorologist Glenn Burns with Channel 2 Action News.

Friday will mean a return to work for many who stayed off the roads Wednesday and Thursday, heeding the warnings of state leaders. If you’re heading out Friday morning, it might be wise to leave a little later than normal to allow any remaining ice patches longer to melt, according to GDOT spokeswoman Karlene Barron.

“Please slow down and be cautious around our equipment as we finalize clean-up from the storm,” Barron said late Thursday.

Here’s what you need to know for Friday:

The forecast: Expect Friday morning to start out chilly before a major warm up moves in, Burns said. There's about a 50 percent chance of showers late in the day, but no frozen precipitation is expected. Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 50. And looking ahead to next week: Tuesday's high will be in the low 60s.

Power outages: Areas south of Atlanta were among the hardest hit by power outages, and thousands remained in the dark late Thursday. For some, it could take days before power is restored. At the worst, about 383,000 customers were without power Thursday morning, but crews were able to restore power to thousands.

Schools: Friday will be another day off for most metro Atlanta students. But many districts already had the day off as part of a winter break. Read more here.
