Weekend at a glance: Following Saturday's heavy storms, Sunday was expected to be partly cloudy with a chance of scattered storms, according to Nitz.
Toppled trees knocked out power to thousands Saturday, but now almost all of the approximately 7,800 customers, including more than 3,000 in metro Atlanta, have had their power restored, according to Georgia Power’s outage map.
During a 24-hour period from 5 p.m. Friday until 5 p.m. Saturday, rainfall totals in Fulton County averaged 1.5 inches, according to the NWS.
Dozens of counties, including Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Henry and Pickens, were under severe thunderstorm warnings at various points Saturday afternoon.
Trees were down on Beverly Road in Ansley Park as well as West Wesley Road and Dellwood Drive in northwest Atlanta. At Collier and Wycliff roads, cars were crushed, according to Channel 2 Action News. Three Paulding roadways — Mustang Drive at Bent Creek Drive, Davis Mill Road North just south of Emerald Pines Lane and Poplar Springs — were blocked due to downed trees, the sheriff’s office told the television station.
