Coming off an already wet week, rains look to continue Friday afternoon.
Friday morning will start quiet, but by the afternoon scattered storms will move into the metro area, with high temperatures in the upper 80s and a low of 70, according to Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist David Chandley said.
“By Friday afternoon there could be an outbreak of thunderstorms for the northern metro area,” said Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns. “The showers will continue into the late afternoon rush hour traffic.”
Rain will continue into the weekend.
“More isolated showers will come across the metro region Saturday,” Chandley said. “However, there will be dry times for some places.”
Rain continues Sunday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal moves up the east coast, Burns said.
Thursday was wet for some places around the state, causing The National Weather Service to issue a flash flood watch for much of the metro Atlanta area until midnight.
The amount of rain this year has the area flirting with record-setting rainfall totals.
Atlanta has received 37.03 inches in 2012 — roughly four inches shy of 2013’s total to date, according to the National Weather Service’s Rainfall Scorecard.
With more than 41 inches of rain on record this year, the area is on pace to seeing one of its wettest years. In 1948, the area logged 42 inches of precipitation by this time.
Even Seattle, known for its rainy disposition, can find itself in some regards green with envy
Atlanta has more than doubled Seattle’s rainfall total this year. As of this week, Seattle annual precipitation count is 18.05 inches.
