As Atlanta wakes up Saturday morning following protests erupting in the city overnight, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is publishing a special ePaper today at 11 a.m.
What began as peaceful protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis officer kneeled on his neck as he was handcuffed, took a chaotic turn Friday and early Saturday.

As the events unfolded late overnight Friday, the AJC is publishing an ePaper focusing on Friday night’s protests, which saw crowds downtown at the CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and Buckhead’s Phipps Plaza defacing buildings, torching places and destroying police cars.
Additionally, 500 National Guard soldiers were deployed — including 100 to the Lenox Square mall area — and authorized to make arrests following an order from Gov. Brian Kemp.
City officials and hip-hop performers/activists including Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Michael "Killer Mike" Render and Clifford "T.I." Harris each made pleas for the city to remain calm and cease destruction.
