They were hired to take care of a 65-year-old disabled woman. The couple even lived in the woman’s Dunwoody home.
But Joseph and Lakisha Taylor spent Thursday night in the DeKalb County jail after their arrests for allegedly abusing the woman in their care, according to arrest warrants obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
On Monday, Dunwoody police were called to a Luray Drive home after a report that Joseph Taylor allegedly grabbed the victim and pulled her to the floor by the back of her neck, his first warrant states. Taylor was booked into the DeKalb jail on a misdemeanor battery charge, booking records show.
Then on Thursday, both Taylors were charged with more serious crimes. Each is facing a felony cruelty to elderly charge, arrest warrants show. The couple allegedly abused the woman and made threats to “put her in a home” if she did not give them money, their warrants state.
“During the previous two years, the victim has been subjected to assault and battery by both Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, leaving visible injuries to her body…financial exploitation, denial of transportation to obtain medical services, threats of physical harm…,” the warrants state.
Both Taylors had court appearances Thursday. Lakisha Taylor’s bond was set at $5,000 and her husband’s at $10,000. Both remained in jail late Thursday.
