The second man accused in the shooting death of a cab driver last month is now in custody in Rhode Island, Clayton County police said Thursday.

Julius Ryan Thomas, 20, surrendered in Providence, R.I., where he is being held while awaiting extradition back to Georgia, Officer Danielle Rosa said.

Thomas has been charged with felony murder, false statements and conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with the killing of Rosendo Casarrubias, who was found dead in his cab near Riverdale on Jan. 25, Rosa said. Casarrubias was shot in the head at the Brookview Village condos off Robert Drive, police said.

Another suspect, Desmond Brandon Nixon, 22, was arrested Feb. 2 and charged with murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, false statements, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond in the Clayton County jail.

Nixon was in a state prison from October 2009 until August 2011 following an aggravated assault conviction, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Police have not released a motive in the cab driver’s death.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
