Two men were arrested in Marietta after one of them attempted to kidnap a woman and then fled from police Friday evening, authorities said.

Marietta police located the men while investigating suspected narcotics complaints in the Economy Hotel’s parking lot in the 2100 block of Northwest Parkway around 6:30 p.m., spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy said. Officers witnessed 40-year-old Quavius Jerome Gilmore of Tucker punching and kicking a woman multiple times while trying to kidnap her, according to a Marietta PD Facebook post. Randy Dixon of Butler was also inside the car at the time.

When police approached Gilmore, the woman escaped and the two men fled in their vehicle, the post said.

Cobb County and Marietta police said they coordinated with plain clothes officers to capture the men after they parked their car in the 2600 block of Windy Hill Road, three miles from the original scene.

While Dixon, 60, cooperated with officers, police said Gilmore, who was behind the wheel, tried to run away.

“At one point, Gilmore approached a vehicle operated by a female in a nearby parking lot and attempted to enter it, without success,” according to the post.

Police said they were able to capture Gilmore with the help of two K-9s.
