A 101-year-old man died Wednesday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who was chased and subdued by other motorists in East Los Angeles, police said.
Residents of the Boyle Heights neighborhood where Jorge Noriega was hit said he was on his regular morning walk when he was struck in the crosswalk by the van. (abc7.com)
Noriega died at a hospital where he was taken after the accident.
Prosecutors later said a motorist who saw the accident followed the van and cut it off. A second motorist took the driver's keys.
Police arrested Ricardo Avalos, 41, of Los Angeles. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond and faces several charges, including vehicular manslaughter.
